The art of Kuba peoples is one of the most highly developed of all African traditions and cultures. Among the best known of Kuba art forms are royal portrait figures, and royal Helmet masks. Kuba wooden helmet masks like this one, are probably the most popular with collectors. This striking mask which was collected from a village in the Kivu region, is believed to have been used for the installation of a local chief.
