This magnificent figure feeding her baby on her lap was carved out of a single block of wood, which is called “Odum” in Ashanti dialect.

This imposing figure is unique because there is another figure on the block with a pregnant woman. It is assumed that she is the same woman during pregnancy. The presentation of this piece demonstrates the fertility of the Ashanti women.
